Fishing Report for Lake Guntersville, Al 1-23-15

This report is for the last 4 days. I have been running several areas getting ready for the upcoming season. Monday was a grind but when I got bit it was a good one and I only boated 4 fish and all of them came on a crankbait. Tuesday was about the same as Monday but I did have a limit and 4 of them were on a crankbait and one was on a trap. On Wednesday I started to get dialed in on the new areas and boated 10 fish which came on a crankbait and trap also. On Thursday I spent the day running places I had caught fish the previous days and I had my best day all week with boating 17 fish. I caught three on a crankbait, 2 on a jerkbait and 10 on a trap. The best depths have been 7 to 10 feet. The biggest thing is finding that retrieve and when dialed in on that its game on. I haven’t tried to target a-rig fish with all of the tournaments that are banning it. I want to have other options for my clients. I feel pretty certain that I could catch them on it but after this rain moves out I will start playing with it a bit for those who are fun fishing and want to fish it. The pictures are of a few big ones I had this week. It may be a little hard to tell in the pictures but they were good ones and I had one giant as you can tell by my fist down her...

Fishing Report for Lake Guntersville, Al 1-19-15

This report is over the last few weeks. The day before the big cold fronts hit was the best day I have had so far with boating around 20 that afternoon. I started around noon and quit around 4:00. Traps and crankbaits were the deal in 7 to 12 feet. The next day I got out was the Sunday after all the big cold front and it was slow and all I could get them to bite was a jig fished really slow. I could see them just sitting there on the graph but it was like force feeding them and all I caught was 4 decent ones and then I broke a trolling motor cable and had to call it quits. That kept me off the water most of last week until I could get new cables, which came in just before I had a few trips booked. On Saturday the fish bit better early and the afternoon was tough. We caught all but one before noon and even though it was a grind all day we had around 10 bites. Yesterday I spent the day looking and checking a different area of the lake out which turned out to be a bad choice with the high winds. That area of the lake was really muddy and after 5 hours of fighting the wind I called it a day and I don’t believe I even had a bite. I’m getting ready to head out now to look for some more areas in my key area where I have caught fish on every outing. I am spending most of...

Fishing Report for Lake Guntersville, Al 1-2-15

got out on Wednesday to start checking some areas and getting ready for the busy season ahead. I have fished at least 3 days a week since November but a lot of those days were spent crappie fishing and filling the freezer for the summer. With the water temp being between 48 and 51 degrees I had a good idea of where to start looking with the amount of grass we still have. After idling around and a little looking with the graphs I found what I was looking for in 8 to 12 feet of water on some outside grass lines close to deeper water I marked several groups of fish. The winds were light and I caught fish on a jerk bait and a trap and ended up with 17 in around 5 hours. I didn’t catch any big fish but solid 3 to 3 ½ lb fish. I know there are some big ones there because I could see them on the graph. I got back out on Thursday doing a little fishing with my son an we hit a few areas from the day before and our first bite was a really good one that looked between 5 or 6 lbs but he pulled loose at the boat on a jerkbait. We switched over to the trap and a swim bait and caught six in the next few hours and then called it a day after around 3 hours of fishing and light rain that had moved in. The fish seem to be running in groups and when you started marking them you would get...
